2nd round of voting for President of Peru |
Two top vote getters from the first round are Ollanta Humala and Keiko Fujimori. Humala also finished first after the first round during the previous elections, but the right coalesced behind Garcia to take the final round. Some say that, although this script could be repeated, Ms. Fujimori’s candidacy is more problematic given the legacy of a strong-armed dictatorship her dad installed in 1992. Both candidates will have to appeal to 1/3 of electorate who are unhappy that supposed benefits of Peru’s recent economic growth have not filtered down to them. |
