Organizaciones civiles denunciaron que la minera canadiense Blackfire México, sobornó con pagos de al menos 204 mil pesos a Julio César Velázquez Calderón, alcalde del municipio de Chicomuselo en Chiapas.
Chiapas: Canadian delegation investigates mining abuses
Mark Rowlinson, Dawn Paley and Rick Arnold visited Chiapas from March 20 - 25 to visit the Blackfire mine site and meet with residents about the effects of the mine. They will prepare a report of their findings to present to a coalition of NGOs in Canada who are concerned about the practices of Canadian mining companies in other countries.

La historia de Juan de Grijalva podría repetirse en los poblados cercanos a la minera Black Fire, donde el muro de barro que ha dejado la extracción de barita "presenta fisuras y podría colapsar en la temporada de lluvias", declaró Rick Arnold, coordinador de una red canadiense de 20 organizaciones gremiales y organismos no gubernamentales relacionados con el tema de la minería.
